Initial Consultation
The process begins with a conversation. We discuss your requirements, preferences, and the context in which the furniture will be used. This may take place in your home, our workshop, or through digital communication.
We explore questions such as: What function must the piece serve? What aesthetic direction appeals to you? What constraints exist in terms of space, access, or existing decor? Understanding these factors guides the design direction.
During this stage, we may review examples of previous work, discuss material preferences, and begin to form a shared vision for the project.
Design Development
Based on our initial conversation, we develop design proposals. These may include sketches, detailed drawings, and material samples. The design is refined through collaboration, ensuring it meets your vision while considering practical requirements.
Design development addresses proportions, joinery methods, material selection, and finish options. We consider how the piece will function in daily use, how it will age over time, and how it relates to its surroundings.
Revisions are part of the process. We work together to refine details until the design aligns with your expectations.
Material Selection
Once the design is established, we select specific timber for the project. Boards are chosen for their grain pattern, color consistency, and structural properties. We work with trusted suppliers who share our commitment to quality and sustainability.
Material samples may be provided so you can see and feel different options. The relationship between timber characteristics and design intent is carefully considered.
For projects involving multiple pieces or matching existing furniture, we ensure material consistency across the commission.
Construction
In our workshop, the piece takes shape. Traditional joinery techniques are applied with precision. Each joint, curve, and surface receives careful attention. We combine hand tools with precision machinery, selecting the appropriate method for each task.
Construction follows the approved design, with attention to detail at every stage. We maintain communication throughout, sharing progress updates and addressing any questions that arise.
The workshop environment supports careful, methodical work, ensuring quality in every aspect of construction.
Finishing
The final finish is applied with care, enhancing the natural beauty of the wood while providing protection. The chosen finish—whether oil, lacquer, wax, or another option—is applied according to best practices.
Finishing involves surface preparation, application of the finish material, and careful inspection. The goal is a surface that looks beautiful and performs well over time.
We ensure finishes are fully cured before delivery, protecting the piece during transport and installation.
Delivery & Installation
Your piece is carefully prepared for delivery. We take care to protect it during transport, ensuring it arrives in perfect condition. Installation is handled with attention to detail, ensuring the piece is properly positioned and level.
We provide guidance on care and maintenance, helping you understand how to maintain the piece's appearance over time. Any questions about the furniture or its care can be discussed at this stage.
The completion of delivery marks the end of the commission process, though we remain available for ongoing support and maintenance advice.
